Ministry Opportunities

Leading to Serve.

Want to get more involved in the life of AU Chi Alpha? There are lots of ways to do so! And the best part is that if you've got a passion for some kind of ministry that isn't listed here, just talk to one of the staff members and let us help you to serve Christ by serving the needs of our campus and fellowship.

Take a peek at the various options for serving below, and either tell your small group leader or a staff member that you'd like to get involved!

Small Group Leader
Small groups are the core element in Chi Alpha's philosophy of ministry. As a leader, you serve by facilitating prayer, worship, Bible study, and sharing in the small group setting. In addition, you naturally serve as a point of contact for group members within the larger body of Chi Alpha. Small group leaders are required to complete the Discipleship by Design training course and interview with Chi Alpha staff.

Prayer
Prayer is the backbone of everything we do! Serving in prayer could include facilitating a prayer chain, leading one of our weekly prayer meetings, encouraging prayer in the fellowship, or assisting with large prayer events.

Worship Team
We love to worship God. Serving on teh worship team includes using your voice or instrument to lead Chi Alpha in worship at TNW and other gatherings, and the organization of worship elements such as songs, dramas, or readings. Regularly-scheduled practices are required.

Missions Trips
There's nothing like a fresh perspective to challenge your heart and mind. In Chi Alpha, we typically take at least one off-site each year, usually during Spring Break. In years past, we have done things like orphan care and church construction in some of the poorest areas of Mexico, and hurricane relief in the American Gulf Coast.

International Student Ministry
American University is one of the most diverse campuses in the world! This gives us an awesome opportunity to share community with people from all over the world. We are working jointly with Global Friends to befriend internationals through conversational English, shopping trips, holiday gatherings, Bible studies, and other events.

Conversation Tables
This is one way we bring our faith out on campus! Every week, we will set up a table on the Quad to enable students, faculty, and staff alike to ask questions about life and faith. Serving in this area could include the organization of literature, formulation of relevant questions, and engaging seekers in a friendly, Christ-like manner.

Athletics Ministry
Every week we have a Bible study that is specifically oriented to student-athletes, coaches, and the athletic staff. Serving in this area could include leading a Bible discussion, promoting the ministry within the athletic department, or attending games and practices.

Event Set-up
A true servant's position. As Chi Alpha grows, there are more and more things to set-up and tear-down for each event. Serving in this capacity would include the transportation, set-up, tear-down, and care of all sound equipment and other fellowship property used in large group events.

Sound Crew
Do you have an ear for a good sound mix? You can serve by monitoring the sound reinforcement at Chi Alpha large group events. This would include assisting the worship leader at both rehearsals and events.

Office Help
Serving at the Chi Alpha office could include filing, organizing, reserving rooms, and anything else to help smooth the administrative functioning of the fellowship.

Fellowship
There's nothing like a good party! Serving in this area would include creating, organizing, and publicizing fun events.

Movie Discussions
This is another way to share our faith openly with the campus. Serving in this capacity would include researching current movies with Christian themes, reserving rooms, publicizing events, and leading the discussions.

Follow-Up Ministry
At Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship, we want everyone to know that they are welcome. Part of the way we accomplish this is by visiting every guest and presenting them with a gift. Serving in this area would include data entry, visiting guests, and organizing welcome bags.

TNW Greeters
This is another way to make everyone feel welcome. Serving as a greeter would include handing out name tags, welcoming guests, and being available to answer any questions students may have.

Publicity Team
Get the word out about Chi Alpha! The publicity team creates and distributes flyers, posters, and other info about the fellowship and upcoming events.

Community Service
What is serving without service? The community service team plans, organizes, and executes large-group service projects both on campus and off. This also includes providing small group leaders with opportunities to serve with their members on a smaller scale.
